WHAT IS REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?
Dr. Haynes performs Regenerative Medicine therapies in our clinic as outpatient procedures. Regenerative medicine refers to the use of healing properties found within the human body to promote regeneration.
They involve an injection of concentrated growth factors or stem cells to regenerate and heal tissues in joints, muscles, tendons or ligaments.
Stem Cell Therapy & Platelet Rick Plasma is great at treating chronic joint pain.
Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of chronic joint pain which involves the entire joint, including the nearby muscles, underlying bone, ligaments, & connective tissue. In osteoarthritis the cartilage degenerates and leads to inflammation and pain. This is common in feet and patients will often complain of joint stiffness, throbbing, and swelling. There is no cure for osteoarthritis, but regenerative medicine therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and bone marrow derived stem cell therapy are a new generation of treatments that have been proven to be safe, effective, and have lasting results. PRP and stem cells contain a concentrated source of anti-inflammatory proteins that aid the healing process.
WHERE DO PLATELET RICH PLASMA & STEM CELLS COME FROM?
Stem cell treatments are unique because they help the body jump start the healing process. Our practice uses a sterile, closed surgical technique to obtain the stem cells.
The bone marrow is a rich source of adult stem cells. Bone marrow aspiration is a quick and simple outpatient procedure to derive regenerative mesenchymal cells and growth factors to heal and restore injured tissues.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA
When your body is injured, its first natural response is to flood the area with growth factors that promote healing. These growth factors are released by platelets. They work to stimulate the healing process. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy optimizes the body’s healing process by placing a high concentration of platelets directly into the injured area.
To harvest PRP, a small sample of your blood is drawn into a specialized collecting system. This blood is centrifuged at high speeds to isolate the growth factors and platelets. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection, and a low risk of allergic reaction.
An alternative method in receiving stem cell therapy is through allograft tissues. These tissues are collected from living healthy donors. Tissues have been shown clinically and scientifically to support soft tissue repair, reduce inflammation and minimize scar tissue formation. Tissues include a number of structural proteins, growth factors and cytokines, which promote cellular proliferation, new collagen formation and reduce inflammation.
WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?
A high concentration of stem cells are found in placental tissues. These stem cells are derived from tissues acquired from living, healthy donors after full term pregnancy and a scheduled Caesarean section. These tissues are minimally processed and preserved to maintain the natural properties of the placental tissues. Stem cells taken from allograft tissues have the ability to be transferred into another human being.
Regenerative Therapy can reduce the need for major surgery, & has a quick healing process. No surgery means no hospital stay, no prolonged recovery, and regeneration happens over the next 2-6 weeks and can continue for up to 6 months.
STEM CELL THERAPY
This state-of-the art medical treatment combines the latest scientific research and medical technology, with a focus on non-surgical treatment. The Stem Cells are carefully injected into the site where the damaged tissue exists and the healing regeneration begins. Most patients find themselves back in their daily routine the day after the procedure. Healing gradually happens over the course of 2-6 weeks and can continue for up to 6 months.
Some conditions that Stem Cell Therapy can treat are Achilles Tendonitis, Achilles Tears, Ankle and Foot Arthritis, Ankle Sprains, Arthritis, Cartilage Defects, Fractures, Phantom Limb Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, & Tendonitis.
Whether you are an elite athlete or a “Weekend Warrior,” PRP is an effective and safe nonsurgical therapy to treat some forms of chronic pain. To harvest PRP, a small sample of your blood is drawn into a specialized collecting system then spun at high speeds to isolate the growth factors and platelets. Once PRP is obtained, it is injected into and around the point of injury to jump-start the healing process. PRP’s natural healing process intensifies the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets and regenerative growth factors directly into the area in need. Because your own blood is being used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection, and a low risk of allergic reaction. Although recovery times can vary, patients generally begin to see improvement in pain and mobility between 2 and 6 weeks. The damaged tissue will continue to regenerate gradually which will improve the overall pain level, mobility, and functionality of the treated area. Improvement will continue for up to 6 months.
Some conditions that PRP Therapy is used to treat include Arthritis of the Joints, Foot and Ankle Pain, Ligament, Cartilage, and Tendon Injuries
Q: HOW MUCH DO REGENERATIVE TREATMENTS COST?
A: Because each patient’s treatment plan is different, the cost varies case by case. Once you’ve had a consult with one of our physicians, we’ll review your treatment plan with you.
Q: IS THIS PROCEDURE COVERED BY INSURANCE?
A: These procedures are currently not covered by insurance. Although these treatments are paid out-of-pocket, you’re investing into your overall health and wellbeing. Call us today to learn more about any finance options we have available.
Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M A CANDIDATE FOR REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?
A: If you noticed your condition listed (see above), you’re likely a candidate for a regenerative treatment provided at our clinic. If you have any questions about your specific condition, give us a call and schedule a visit with Dr. Haynes.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
A: Depending on which treatment you receive, the procedure time ranges from 30min. – 1hr. These are non-invasive procedures with very little downtime post treatment.
Q: HOW CAN I GET STARTED WITH REGENERATIVE TREATMENT?
A: It’s as easy as giving us a call at 503-668-5210 or by requesting an appointment on our webpage.
